Ski and snowboard at Mount Pakenham

This family-run ski hill is a great option for all ages and skill levels. It’s not hard to pass a day on the slopes here, and there are even snowshoe trails for those who prefer that option. Ski and rentals are available, and you can book your rentals and passes in advance to guarantee your spot.

Explore the sugar bush at Fulton’s

Talk a walk, snowshoe, or cross-country ski along 8 km of trails through the sugar bush at Fulton’s, between Pakenham and Almonte. While you’re there, visit the store, try some maple taffy, and enjoy the playground and sledding hill.

Take in the views at Mill of Kintail

The Mill of Kintail Conservation Area is a heritage property with 6 km of trail available for hiking and snowshoeing. The walk offers lots of gorgeous views, especially along the Indian River. Parking passes must be purchased. On Tuesday, Mar. 14 there will be a Family Nature Day with activities and refreshments, but you’ll need to register in advance.

Experience History

Stroll down historic Mill Street

The heart of old Almonte is Mill Street, which continues to be a hub for independent, local businesses of all kinds. Find vintage treasures, trendy clothes, home goods, and all sorts of locally-made products. And, while you’re at it, enjoy the picturesque, historic architecture (a popular setting for many Christmas movies).

Walk to the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum

Just a short walk from Mill Street, on Coleman Island, you’ll find the Mississippi Valley Textile Museum. Built in the old woolen mill, the museum follows the local history of industrial textile production and its impact on the community.

Visit the North Lanark Historic Society

One of the most beautiful little places to drive through in Mississippi Mills is Appleton. There you’ll also find the North Lanark Regional Museum which includes several exhibits on county history and a pioneer log cabin.

Eat Up

Taste award-winning chocolate at Hummingbird

Check out Hummingbird’s store, factory, and cafe, where you can sip a delicious chocolate beverage while taking a peak at the production process. And don’t forget to buy some delicious chocolates as a memento.

It’s hard to pick just a few destinations for food in our little town because there are so many quality options. Equator Coffee Roasters, who began in Almonte, is a great stop for coffee or tea; Joe’s Italian Kitchen is a sit-down pizza place that everyone will love; and Superior Restaurant is an Almonte classic.
